My company laid me off in one day without thinking a H1B guy has to leave the country immediatley. I asked them to buy my car, furniture and appartment lease as an obligation for fair value. Because of that i got 2 weeks more time to think over. Anyway they are not going to pay. Did you ask the company to pay you a return airfare to your country. If you ask, they will need time to research and you will get more free time.

There is one more thread in this forum where one guy applied for unemployed benefit in EAD, in a weeks times the ICE was coming to his home and severed the notice to appear in the court. That guy started the thread and every one bashing him for applying the unemployment benefit. But he later came to know that his employer notified the USCIS that he got laid off during EAD. So he lost his status and they wanted to deport him. I am not sure about the outcome. He is here in only in the IV. That thread was created in the last 2-3 months time. So search for it.
There is definitely some legal implication otherwise why your employer wants to inform USCIS. They wanted to be in the safer side. So if anything happens you are the one going to face the music. So check with some good attorney.

look to see if you can reduce your monthly mortgage payment by means of "recasting". some mortagages offer this choice, some dont.
Say you are paying a note of 1500 per month, and you would like to pay 1400 per month, then assuming that you have put six months of expense aside in emergnecy funds, pay off your mortgage principal as much as you can. Next, call the lender to tell them that you want to recast the loan. Recasting means figuring out the payment as if your today's mortgage balance is what you would pay on for the rest of the period on your loan.
It may go down by say $50 dollars or sth. But thats the interest you would not be paying to the lender. Which is indeed the savings your will have. $600 / per year.
I am not an expert, just one opinion.

We bought a house last year needless to say that the prices have fallen. We are now in a dazed state as we just realised we don't have any savings, whatever we had, we made bad choices - house, 2 cars (They looked good at that time though) and put about 10% on the house.
We were planning on to invest all our savings in the house as we recently paid off our two cars and no other debts. But after reading some posts here on the housing and investment market. I am not sure if I want to put everything in the house, having my job at risk and no GC yet.
Being a novice in fianancial matters, need advice.

The voting part is currently over! Please read my earlier post, as some of the vote counts will be adjusted to remove votes from individuals who have the same/very similar IP as another voter for the same entry.
There seems to be a tie for 2nd place with three entries having 8 votes. Therefore, there will be some runoff voting as well.

Any reason why we are all waiting for the August bulletin??? We alrerady know that the visa numbers aren't available for this year...and its also been mentioned by IV that the breaking news that everyonez expecting isnt about the visa bulletin....I am confused...could somebody throw light on this pls..why the wait?? :confused:

This happened with me too yesterday and I wondered why it happened. I did get an alert message asking for this 'Trojan Horse ' to be put in vault'. It happened exactly while I opened this link and went to this site. Someone should send email to the owner of this blog to alert him.
My computer crashed several times after that and I had to reinstall OS to get rid of this virus. I am now in the process of installing all softwares again. All my strong anti-virus defense systems failed to stop this virus.
I got identical symptoms yesterday.. Have Mcafee..but after clean-up and rebooting my laptop won't come up..
Only reason am even writing is from my guilt of getting upset and blaming my young daughter who used the laptop just after I checked IV site. Other than getting the laptop back and make amends with my daughter have to see impact of data loss.
Hope this really does not happen again...
